Discretionary Grants (DG)

The full grant cycle: an application window opens, organisations apply with evidence, staff verify and approve through workflow, and approved projects are funded, paid in tranches and monitored.

🧭1. Grant Application to Funded Project Process

A discretionary grant from the moment the window opens to a monitored, paying project.

1
The window opens. Applications are only accepted inside a configured DG window — outside it, the Apply button explains itself.
↓
2
The employer applies. /DG/FundedApplications/NewFundedApplication — intervention, learner numbers, budget; the register tracks every application’s contract number and status. DG applications register
↓
3
Learners are verified. Each funded learner is confirmed before money attaches to them — the "all learners verified" flag on the register says where that stands.
↓
4
The approval queue decides. Discretionary Grants has its own workflow queue; approval turns the application into a commitment. Workflow queues including Discretionary Grants

5
Funded project, payments, M&E. The approved application becomes a funded project (/Finance/FundingMonitoring/Projects); tranche payments follow delivery, and the M&E site-visit cycle (see the MnE guide) checks the ground truth.

Approved applications become funded projects: learners are attached, milestones tracked and tranche payments made (/Finance/FundingMonitoring/Payments).

❓FAQ & troubleshooting

The New Application button refuses me.

Either no DG window is open, or your account is not linked to an organisation that may apply.

Where do I see why an application was declined?

On the application profile — the evaluation trail records each decision and its reason.

Who monitors delivery?

The MnE module schedules site visits against funded projects and captures monitoring reports.
