Help paying for your studies

What is available, and what you actually have to do for each one.
Start here: apply to study. Funding follows a place, not the other way round. On the application form you tell us how you expect to pay, and that is what puts the right conversation in motion.
NSFAS
For South African citizens studying at a public college or university, where household income is within the NSFAS threshold.
You apply to NSFAS yourself
NSFAS applications are made on the NSFAS portal, not here and not by the college. Choosing NSFAS on our form tells us to expect it — it does not apply on your behalf, and nobody at the college can submit it for you.
Once you are funded and registered, the college sends NSFAS your registration data and a monthly attendance return. Allowances continue while you attend at least 80% of your scheduled sessions, so attendance is not only an academic matter.
SETA funded
Learnerships and skills programmes funded through a SETA, usually with an employer attached and often paying a stipend.
Say so on your application
Choose SETA funded on the form. If a specific learnership or employer is involved, put it in the funding notes — it saves a phone call. Openings are also advertised on the opportunities page.
Industry or employer funded
Your employer, or a company sponsoring you, pays.
Name the employer on your application
Choose Industry or employer funded and give the employer's name in the funding notes, so the college can invoice the right party rather than you.
Bursaries and self-funding
Donor bursaries administered by the college, or paying your own way.
Bursaries administered by the college are awarded from its own funds, and are considered once you have applied and been assessed. If you have applied for an outside bursary, mention it in the funding notes.
